Happy Birthday wishes to my first wife. It is great to be on the road with you today. In fact it has been great to be on the road with you the last 44 + years. When we are at the shows on business, I like to tell people “I do the work , she takes all my money” . If the truth were known “ I do the work, she gives me a bit of the money”. Actually we both work at it and we both take off once in awhile on vacation.
This was to be a down day, scheduled to get acclimated to the new time schedule as well as to assemble the bicycles. Turned out to be a good plan since it was cloudy and cold.
First to McDonalds just around the corner for some breakfast.
It was a late start at putting the bikes back together. Since the large hockey bags they were shipped in were in rough shape from the flight, (the ratchet straps were loose and some were un-done), I half expected that there would be parts missing but after 4 hours, we were riding them around the basement parking garage of the hotel to tweek the final brake and gear adjustments etc.
Then it was out into the town of Erding, Germany about 20 minutes from the Munich Airport and further into the countryside on our bikes. It was good to see some by now familiar sights - brightly colored homes and barn combinations all with red tile roofs right in town with chickens scurrying out of our way and sheep and cows beside the street. At the end of town we rode the paved path out through the country beside cornfields, past small individual family churches and larger ones too. Everywhere people were walking and biking over the hill and through the fields - couples arm in arm, out for a leisurely stroll. Took the GPS with us but after an hour and a half, we found our way back “home” with a couple u-turns along the way. It was a chilly ride - we commented that it felt like snow but no sign of fall here. Everything is lush and green including the leaves. On to Bacharach Germany tomorrow - four hours west to start our first week along the Rhine and Mosel Rivers.
